The way a classroom is set up and what the teacher chooses to put up around the classroom is also vital to creating a strong classroom community. Here is some advice to take into consideration when organizing the classroom:

Desk Formation: Table groups used for cooperative learning work best. Desks arranged in table groups foster positive interaction and community building. Students can share community supplies, keep each other on task, and hold one another responsible for their tasks and behavior. Students enjoy having their desks in table groups so they can work together with their classmates and get help when needed.

Artwork on the Walls: Students are proud to display their hard work. It also gives students the chance to compliment others. It encourages students to take pride in their work and their school at large, so make a space for student's work to be hung proudly!

Spanish-English Word Walls: having both the Spanish and English word on the wall allows students to feel like their language is ok to be spoken in the classroom. It also helps with content knowledge.
Organization, Organization, Organization! Students who know where to put their work, where to unpack their things, what to do when they are finished with work, etc. are more likely to succeed and be on task. That being said, make a specific place for students to turn in work, make them highlight their name to make sure they actually wrote it on there, have a morning routine, have a list of things students can do after they are finished with an assignment.
